This four-day online creative writing camp is designed for Year 3 pupils who are ready to strengthen their creative writing and develop richer, more engaging descriptions of people and places. Across four 2-hour sessions, students will learn practical techniques to bring their ideas to life on the page. They will explore how to use the five senses to create vivid settings, vary sentence structures to make their writing more interesting, and experiment with imagery and descriptive language to build clearer pictures for the reader.
Each session combines teacher modelling, guided discussion and supported extended writing so that pupils can see examples of effective writing before applying the techniques themselves. Through carefully structured activities, students will gradually build confidence in developing their ideas, expanding simple descriptions into more detailed and imaginative pieces.
Pupils will also learn how to think more like writers-considering word choices, building atmosphere and organising their ideas so their writing flows clearly. By practising these skills step by step, they will gain a stronger understanding of how good descriptions are created and how they can improve their own work.
By the end of the camp, students will have produced several pieces of extended writing, showing clear progress in their descriptive techniques and overall creativity. They will also receive post-lesson feedback to help them recognise their strengths and understand the next steps for developing their writing further.
