This four-day online creative writing camp is designed for Year 4 pupils who are ready to develop greater control and impact in their descriptive writing. Across four focused two-hour sessions, students will learn how to craft more engaging descriptions of people, places and situations while building the skills needed to write with greater confidence and precision.
Throughout the camp, pupils will explore how effective writers bring scenes to life. They will learn to select precise and powerful vocabulary, create vivid imagery and vary their sentences to shape the rhythm and flow of their writing. The course also introduces techniques for building atmosphere and sustaining it throughout a piece so that descriptions feel purposeful and immersive rather than simply a list of details.
Each session includes clear teacher modelling, guided discussion and extended writing tasks, allowing pupils to see strong examples before applying the techniques themselves. With structured support, students will practise developing their ideas in greater depth and learn how small changes in word choice, sentence structure and detail can significantly improve the impact of their writing.
Constructive feedback after each session will help pupils reflect on their work, refine their ideas and recognise the progress they are making across the course. By the end of the camp, students will have produced several pieces of extended descriptive writing and developed a clearer understanding of how to engage the reader and create writing that feels confident, vivid and increasingly mature.
