This five‑day course focuses on the key forms of writing required for GCSE English, developing students’ confidence and ability in articulating a response to texts and prompts of all different kinds. Across the course, students will learn to develop their analytical writing, examining texts and learning to structure insightful responses to unlock the top GCSE bands. They will also refine their creative writing skills, experimenting with narrative craft, descriptive techniques, and purposeful language choices to build originality and control, vital for GCSE Language courses.
In addition, students will practise directed writing, transforming ideas and perspectives for specific audiences and purposes, sharpening clarity, tone and organisation, and understanding what types of text they might need to create in an exam. Throughout the sessions, students will engage with model responses, editing tasks, and timed practice to build precision, independence, and exam confidence. By the end of the course, learners will have a stronger command of language, a deeper understanding of literary techniques, and a toolkit of strategies to approach any response or exam task with assurance.
